Maybe It’s Time to Lighten Up Just a Little

Time to lighten a littleHave you ever experienced a moment which, for lack of a better phrase, smacks you in the face, as if to say, wake up fool… look at what you’re missing while being so wrapped up in all your stuff?

I say, maybe it’s time to lighten up just a little.

This morning, I woke up around 6:30 as usual, got dressed, grabbed a cup of coffee, automatically began thinking about my day’s schedule, walked outside, and was completely blindsided by a spectacular summer morning. It instantly put a smile on my face, a lift in my spirit, and joy in my heart.
Time to lighten up a little
The sun was rising, the birds were singing, the air was sweet and cool. There I was, completely submerged in an almost cartoon like, Zip-a Dee-Doo-Dah moment… one that felt as if it were tailored made just for me.

And in that instant, I was light as a feather, as everything that weighed me down just simply dissipated. All was as it should be.

There I was… feeling as if I had just stumbled over a piece of heaven, and all I did was walk outside.

Damn, I’m glad I didn’t sleep in today.

We need light, we need sunshine, we need the open air… and we need plenty of it. It’s nature’s catalyst for happiness… and it’s right outside your front door.

Think about the amount of time you spend indoors. If you work inside… there’s 8 to 10 hours right there. Add another 8 hours for sleeping. And the hours spent watching TV or in front of a computer screen… who knows?

Fear, the blues, loneliness, sadness, all thrive on darkness… but light, ahhh… at the very least it softens the blow.

Think about the wonderful times you spend outside… maybe on vacation… working in the yard… enjoying a picnic… going for a leisure walk… jogging in the park… riding a bike… cooking out… sitting by a brook.

Time to lighten up a little
Wait a minute… you say you don’t do that… Really? That may explain everything. Come on… lighten up a little bit and soak up some of that wonderfulness. Go outside… take a deep breath and let things go a little. Yes, it’s true, everything will be as it was when you return, except one… your perspective.

Go ahead… lighten up just a little.  It’s a beautiful day!
