Unconditional Love

“God is love, and all who live in love, live in God.”

Unconditional Love

This beautiful lyric, inspired by the apostle John and written by David Haas, masterfully weaves together two of the most thought provoking subjects ever pondered…God and Love. And in doing so, beautifully captures the essence of both.

“God is love, and all who live in love, live in God”…so simple…yet so very powerful.

For those times when life seems to be spiraling out of control, I’m often comforted by such simple truths.

When I’m spiritually confused, I tend to get this empty feeling as if life and everything in it is passing me by at warp speed.  Then, inevitably…someone in my life, who is living in love, kindly sends a little of it my way. And in no time…I’m renewed.  Again…so simple…yet so very powerful.

I apologize if this is beginning to sound a little preachy…but when the spirit moves you…you got to go with it.  I’ll keep it short and sweet.

I truly believe the essence of God…is love. Better said…unconditional love.
As we all know, unconditional love is in a class of its own. Here, there are no boundaries, as well as no expectations for anything in return. There are simply no strings attached…none.  This ain’t natural. Therefore it must be supernatural….a blessing, if you will.

The more we love unconditionally, the easier we are able to recognize God’s love.
Experiencing both the giving and the receiving of this unconditional love is the key…it gives us the prospective necessary in understanding its complexities. Without this insight, God’s love wouldn’t make any sense…at least not to me.

The wisdom rendered from this blessing gives us a glimpse into the infinite love God must have for us…which can be very settling during the rough times.

Unconditional love, which parallels God’s love for us, can manifest itself in varied ways, but none paint a better picture than the selfless love a parent has for a child.

As a parent:
• When your child feels pain…you feel pain.
• When they feel joy…you feel joy.
• When they want to learn, you teach…no matter how long it takes.
• When they succeed…you beam with pride.
• When they struggle…you feel the pain.
• If you could transfer their pain to you…you would…in a New York minute.
• You would watch them fall in order to teach them to walk.
• There’s nothing you wouldn’t give to them…whether they ask or not.
• If they were lost, you would go through hell to find them.
• Your happiness is rooted from theirs.
• You only withhold when it benefits them.
• You would instantly give your life to save theirs.
• You would painfully watch them struggle, in order for them to succeed.
• You would take as much time as necessary to listen to their problems.
• You would defend them at all cost.
• Even as they are kicking and screaming, you would show them the way.
• You will never give up on them.

We live with abundant love. The down side is…it’s so freely given, we often don’t recognize it.

The next time I can’t feel the love, or get that feeling that God is nowhere to be found, I’m going to visit one of my kids. I’ll then smile and tell her I love her. And by doing so, I’ll be reminded of who I am…and why I am.

If you enjoyed reading this post, would you please send it to two of your friends?  Thank you.
